Gadget News : What is AMOLED and its Display Looks Alike?

AMOLED is a display device technology used in smartwatches, mobile devices, laptops, and televisions. AMOLED means Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode.

Active matrix organic light-emitting diodes (AMOLEDs) consist of pixels of electroluminescent organic compounds “printed” in a matrix onto a base layer. This base layer is currently glass and will be further developed to use flexible polymers in the future. Unlike liquid crystal displays, OLED displays do not require a backlight and consume very little power, making them suitable for battery-powered devices. AMOLEDs use a thin film transistor (TFT) to control the pixels.

Which is better AMOLED or IPS LCD?

Modern AMOLED displays also provide better viewing angles, surpassing IPS. ... However, since AMOLED is more difficult to produce than IPS, costs are higher and images aren't quite as sharp. Since each “dot” is essentially its own colored light in an AMOLED display, colors are better and contrast is great.

AMOLED is a technology in which the pixels turn off when there is a black spot make the dynamic range of the screen better. There are also panels like IPS LCD where the black is shown as a colour.

Disadvantage:

- Compared with the LCD screen, the AMOLED has higher contrast and other display advantages. However, being more 'ideal' also means paying more. The AMOLED displays are thought to cause 'eyes hurt' because of low-frequency dimming by AMOLED manufacturers

- On an AMOLED screen, each tiny pixels are lit and that causes battery drain, however, when displaying black pixels, they don't light up therefore saving battery. However, overall it still drains more battery than LCD.
