Positive news is incoming for F1 fans. Mercedes Team Principal, Toto Wolff has hinted at two more races in this year’s calendar in the Middle East. The new revised F1 calendar so far only confirmed 8 races for the 2020 season. All 8 confirmed races are going to take place in Europe. The first one will be held on the 5th of July in Austria. There are also two races that will be held in Austria as well as in Britain.
Wolff said, “It’s good that we have a solid base with the European races already on the calendar. I believe and hope that we might have two more races at the end of the year in the Middle East and that will be announced soon.”
However, he added, “We also need to see how the situation evolves in all countries, because it continues to evolve everywhere.”
It is difficult to say where the two races will be held. Whether there will be a race each in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi or whether there will be two races held at either one circuit, only time will tell.
Wolff additionally also spoke about Mercedes’ chances in this compressed season. He said, “This new calendar does provide a challenge for the teams. The preparation time towards the first race is very short and with a small calendar, the pressure on the first race is even greater. Reliability will be very important this season, but I believe we have the fastest and best package to win the world title.”
It is now a waiting game for teams and fans alike regarding how the 2020 calendar will shape out and how the number of races could determine the title winner.
