My Journey in the Industry Leads to Master says Malavika Mohanan

Snippets of Malavika Mohanan: Since her debut in 2013 with the Malayalam film Pattam Pole, Malavika Mohanan has been choosing scripts that allow her to experiment. Her role in Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds won her critical acclaim and she debuted in Tamil later with Rajinikanth’s Petta, directed by Karthik Subbaraj.

And now, she has Master with Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj lined up for release.
Ask Malavika how she chooses her films, and she says, “You want to work with a good director. A director is the captain of the ships and I feel that choosing the makers are important. A good script is also equally important, but you need the right people to help it reach the audience. You can’t say that you will do a film if the story is great. There have been anomalies where films with new people have become super-duper hits, but on an average, it’s very difficult purely because of the commercials involved. You need the right producers and distributors to take the film to people. A great team is important.”

Malavika adds, “There are a few directors, few actors you want to work with. When Petta came my way, many people told me not to do the film because it was a small role. If I had said no to the film, saying I will only do lead roles, I would have missed out on such a lovely film. Though I had a small role, I had scope to perform. You need just one scene to make a mark. I also wanted to act with Rajinikanth sir. I didn’t know if I would get a chance again to work with him. I am where I am today because I did that film. Master happened because of my journey in this industry, and Petta is an integral part of that journey
