Is it Safe to Travel by Car or Airplane During Lightning?

Hi Guys, Im Stephen alias Steve im here to Explain you all about Some common science which we all read in 10 std or 12 th std without even knowing the meaning of it.

Have you ever wondered by looking at the sky during rain and thinking of passengers inside it whether they are attacked by lightning during rain.

Let see what happen when they travel in car or plane during Lightning.

The main Concept behind this Epic Science secret is Electrostatic Shielding.

We all know shield means a cover or protector like something from the name itself. So let see what is Electrostatic Field and how this shield will protect us from the Electrostatic field or force.

Basic we should know before we move to this concept:

1) Electric Field

2) Electric Field Lines

2) Electrostatic Force

Lets see  one scenario to understand this concept easier:

Place and blow on the candle in dark room. Consider that fire on the candle as charge and Force around the candle fire as Electric field and If we draw imaginary lines on electric field then it is Electric Field lines.

so from this we came to know simply that electric field is simply charges either positive or negative. The Imaginary lines which drawn on the field is Electric Field lines.

Let come to main concept of Electrostatic force. It is the combination of Positive and negative charges. When positive and negative meet each other they attract ,  When positive and same charge meet each other they repel.

Now we came to know what is Electrostatic Force.

Now i explain how the Electrostatic Shielding will work.

Take one Container and assume that container will fill with charges.(both positive and negative).

When positive electric field induce on the conductor then the negative charge attracts towards that positive electric field so that electrostatic force gets formed. But those negative charges cant able to move away from the container by air so they stayed on the surface of the container.

Inside the container there is no charge you can feel.

So it is safe to sit in the container.

Hence that container acts as a shield. This shield is known as Electrostatic Shielding.

In Books i read this definition:

Electrostatic shielding is the phenomenon that is observed when a Faraday cage operates to block the effects of an electric field. Such a cage can block the effects of an external field on its internal contents, or the effects of an internal field on the outside environment.

Ha ha Quite difficult to understand right.

Application:

The phenomenon of making a region free from any electric field is called electrostatic shielding. Applications: In lightening thunderstorm, it is safe to sit inside the car, rather than near a tree or in open ground. The metallic body of the car acts as electrostatic shielding from lightening.

So now we got the answer for our first question am i right.

Your suggestions are welcome.
